read more › DB Sterlin was responsible for providing drainage design, retaining wall design, and construction support for the Midway Terminal Parking Garage Expansion. The civil work consisted of designing the proposed drainage, underground detention, and modification of existing drainage necessary for the garage expansion. The structural work involved designing two new retaining walls, retrofitting an existing retaining wall by installing permanent tiebacks, and removal and replacement of a portion of an existing retaining wall.

read more › The project included reconstruction, overlay and new shoulders of 4L-22R and Taxiways. The work consisted of mill (0"-3") and overlay with 3"-6" of new bituminous asphalt pavement as well as complete reconstruction in some areas. Reconfiguration of Taxiway P was part of this project. A 90 degree entrance to the runway was needed to provide better view airplane traffic. Sewer investigation within the areas surveyed was also necessary to complete the project. DB Sterlin as a subconsultant to Jacobs Engineering Group performed a full topographic survey which included the location of all surface features including man-holes and hand-holes, horizontal and vertical controls, close level circuits, cross sections, pavement markings, and location and identification of all utilities within the project limits.

read more › DB Sterlin provided engineering services for the Chicago Department of Aviation's mandatory cycle of 3 year pavement inspections. The project involved field inspection and analysis of current airside and landside pavement conditions, utilizing a combination of ArcGIS software and the MicroPAVER Pavement Management System to determine the Pavement Condition Index (PCI), assist in the creation of the Pavement Condition Report, and create/update Network Definition Maps and PCI Maps using AutoCAD. The overall project consisted of the utilization of the ArcGIS/MicroPAVER Pavement Management System to inventory and monitor conditions of the airport pavement networks.

read more › DB Sterlin was a member of the team preparing the Master Civil Plan for the O'Hare Airport Modernization Program and had numerous individuals contributing surveying and engineering services to the project. The scope of services for this project consisted of coordination of all land surveying services, including establishment of horizontal and vertical controls, surveying of existing airport features, and layout of new project features. Civil engineering services provided by DB Sterlin included project site planning, coordination of the EIS being developed by the FAA, validation of airport layout concepts developed by the City, roadway layouts, drainage designs, utility identification and layout, Digital Terrain Modeling for establishing new contours, balancing of earthwork quantities using Geopak, construction phasing, and preparation of outline specifications and over 100 drawings using Microstation V8.

DB Sterlin performed a full topographic survey which included the location of all surface features including man-holes and hand-holes, within the project limits. DB Sterlin provided construction engineering services for bridge repair projects (Citywide) for the City of Chicago, Department of Transportation (CDOT). Primary responsibilities included plans and specifications review, site conditions review, contract administration, material inspection, monitor testing firms.

read more › The scope of services for this project consisted of biennial and fracture critical bridge inspections and preparation of bridge inspection reports for 379 bridges located throughout the City of Chicago. DB Sterlin performed detailed, visual inspections of approximately 60 to 80 structures each year in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards. The work included inspection of highway and railroad bridges, tunnels, culverts, pedestrian overpasses and underpasses and the preparation and submittal of the required IDOT bridge inspection forms.

read more › DB Sterlin provided construction inspection services for the 35th Street Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge Over Lake Shore Drive project. Responsibilities included field inspection for adherence to plans and specifications, field measurements and quantity calculations, daily progress reports, monitoring maintenance of traffic activities, verifying contractor's layout, and resolution of construction issues. The project consisted of the removal of the existing 75-year-old pedestrian bridge and the construction of a new, self-anchored, post-tensioned suspension bridge.
