To say a company has evolved implies that it has adapted, transformed, become more efficient, and quick to identify next steps. That's what's happening at KLJ. With over 80 years serving in the engineering industry, we look back - from a small company working across the Dakotas, to engineering infrastructure across the nation. Our evolution has helped us solidify our mission to improve the lives of people and communities - by engineering progressive infrastructure.

We are perfectly designed to thrive in this environment. Adaptable enough to evolve with the times. The City of Colstrip, MT had a challenge. The primary source of employment, the Colstrip Power Plant, is on schedule to shut down two of their four major units by July of 2022. Hundreds of people will be impacted by the closure, and the community needed a strategic plan to provide guidance for diversification for residents.

KLJ was the prime consultant for planning, environmental assessment, design and construction inspection of the Four Bears Bridge replacement.

From L.W. Veigel Consulting Engineering, to Kadrmas, Lee & Jackson, and now the name we are known as today, KLJ, we have grown from a small family business into a national multi-disciplinary firm.
By working in a number of markets across the country, we specialize in aviation, environmental, funding resources, land development, oil & gas, power, public works, right-of-way, structural, survey, telecommunications, transportation, and water.
Every detail impacts the travel experience - and we want travelers to say great things about your airport.
Planning and engineering is just the beginning.
The details and work behind the scenes are what really brings your project to life.
It's the ability to identify funding opportunities, understand FAA rules, and think beyond today to help you prepare for tomorrow.

We are creative problem solvers who offer a vision that is innovative yet flexible, allowing us to react to unforeseen industry changes.
History shapes our environment.
Taking the time to thoughtfully and accurately inventory history and archaeology on a project site is what we do.
A project component often viewed as what slows us down, is actually the part of the process that allows progress to continue.
From understanding the complexities of each detail of Section 106, to completing the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process, we involve all stakeholders to consider, recommend, and keep projects moving forward.
KLJ's archaeologists and historians provide a strong understanding of historic preservation laws and compliance practices.
