You'll find our AUDIO ENGINEERING & MUSIC BUSINESS GRADUATES working with some of the most celebrated artists in the world. The mission of Dark Horse Institute is to provide students with an accelerated, affordable and experiential learning environment designed to prepare them for a career in audio engineering, production, and the music business. Our hands-on, mentor-based programs pair students with working industry professionals in real-world scenarios with recording studio resources, gear, and so much more.

Master the skills you need to succeed as an AUDIO ENGINEER or MUSIC BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL. Our Audio Engineering Program is a 20-week, 500-hour program divided into eight courses, including two real-world recording projects where you'll record, mix and master 6-song EPs with professional working bands. The newest addition to Dark Horse Institute's educational lineup is the 12-week, 300-hour Composition & Songwriting Program.

In this program you'll study with instructors who are veterans in the industry while collaborating with other students.

Cathy Baird has worked in the field of college admissions and operations for more than 14 years, including as Director of Enrollment of the Chef's Academy at Harrison College, and Director of Admissions at Daymar College and Southwestern College, both in Kentucky.
Our award-winning Audio Engineering, Music Business, Composition and Songwriting instructors are veterans in the music industry.
They have collaborated on Grammy award-winning and platinum selling albums.
They have a wealth of experience in artist management, songwriting and publishing, concert promotion, touring and more.

Based just outside of Nashville, Audio Engineering and Music Business classes are taught in our fully operational recording studios and state of the art facilities.

Our audio engineering course is a 20-week certificate program and the recording arts built on a real-world, hands-on, full-immersion approach to learning.

In this comprehensive program, we do not waste a minute of time.
We concentrate on the essential elements and core concepts of what you really need to know.
You'll be trained on professional gear that is currently being used to create chart-topping records.
Our audio engineering classes are kept small to allow you plenty of time to work directly on our studio equipment with the instructors.
We offer world-class "studio-standard" analog and digital gear for you to learn recording and music production techniques on.
In addition, we bring in two working professional bands for you to record as final projects over 10 class days.
You'll spend additional time learning to edit, mix and master these tracks.
During the recording sessions you'll be learning proper mic placement using our collection of high-end microphones and how to route them through one of our two recording consoles and racks of analog preamps, equalizers, compressors and various effects.
