Services
This collaboration between OEC and the Catholic University of America's School of Architecture and Planning shows the degree of complexity, and efficiency that can be obtained through the use of digital, design, planning, and fabrication techniques.
This item was conceived and base designed by a group of students at the school.
With our assistance, this was detailed, fabricated and installed 2 weeks in advance of the scheduled opening and within the time of one semester.
It is approximately 15' wide & 250' long, and stands as a testament to what can be achieved with digital collaboration methods.
A collaboration between OEC and Architectural Technology students from the Department of Applied Technology at Montgomery College resulted in a public outdoor and mobile office space in Silver Spring Md.
It is designed to attract users to work outside, and within close proximity to the amenities offered in Downtown Silver Spring.
What you don't see here is that here are 3 modules, each a 10 foot cube.
They are connected using a cam latch system.
They can be quickly detached from one another and the air ride system underneath can be deployed so they can be pushed to another site or away for storage.
HOOD: OEC planned, fabricated, and installed a 14' tall x 8' diameter decorative fireplace hood.
These are individual strips, formed and attached to the flue substructure, with the hanging sculpture in the background.
HANGING SCULPTURE: Shown is a hanging sculpture made from painted acrylic sheets.
It is approximately 18' x 34', and has over 200 connection points.
It is suspended from the ceiling by the over 200 connections using heavy clear monofilament.
Our means for planning such an audacious installation meant that the installation was complete within 3 days, showing the power of digital fabrication thinking and techniques in the analog world of a construction site.
This one of a kind building facade is covered in custom cut and fabricated tiles.
OEC planned, and cut all these tiles and reassembled them for installation onto precast slabs that were the applied to the building.
With Digital Collaboration from the Architect Essocoff Associates, we were able to produce this entire pattern to fit the slabs with a 1/16 grout joint.
Shown are some of the fixtures used when reassembling the tiles.
1707 L St. NW 25' wide x 40' deep, Stainless Steel over a concrete substructure.
We use this as our standard of quality whenever we are speaking with people about tolerances in the built environment, i.e., construction tolerances.
We view construction tolerances as what you make them, so we make them tight.
Rebuilt by OEC in 2010, even today there is not an open seam or reveal that is not within 1/64.
Sheet metal designed to be structural itself, this canopy has not moved or significantly changed since the day it was installed.
