Fluid Dynamics +Thermodynamics Flometrics designs, builds, tests, and improves products for customers in industries from consumer products and medical devices to spacecraft hardware. Our Engineers have an extensive background in taking engineering concepts to physical reality through their modeling and analysis capabilities. We have experience in designing heat exchangers, cooling systems, thermal control systems, temperature sensors, air conditioning and power systems.

We help customers design innovative systems and develop products which involve the flow of all fluids, both liquid and gas. Flometrics is assisting in the development of a DIY respiratory device (ventilator) for patients with low to intermediate respiratory distress. Key to our approach is a simplified, easily built method of applying lung back-pressure (PEEP) while simultaneously capturing and reducing the virus in the patient's exhalations.

Dr. Steve Harrington started Flometrics in his garage in 1990 while earning his doctorate degree in Engineering Mechanics at SDSU and UCSD.
The company catered to local businesses that did not have in-house fluid dynamics and thermodynamics expertise.
Our approach has always remained the same: quick turn around, and low cost solutions.

Today Flometrics has a staff of six engineers.
Flometrics develops engineering solutions quickly and effectively by combining theoretical knowledge with practical capability.
The engineers at Flometrics have the knowledge and experience to analyze problems in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics, combined with hands-on capability and an expansive stock of tools and instruments to set up experiments and build prototypes.
This helps customers develop products on schedule and on budget.
The typical process is to understand the customer's problem, research patents and scientific literature, develop solutions, analyze the effectiveness of the proposed solutions, and calculate expected performance.
First our engineers use rigorous analysis to understand how a device works, and to predict how a new concept might work better.
Whether we are designing a new rocket nozzle, a medical device pump or an industrial compressor, we create a theoretical model of the device and validate it.
The theoretical model may be a CFD simulation or a detailed mathematical model.
Once we have an analysis that looks correct, we make sure that our model fits a known device.
We do this by an extensive search of journal articles/technical papers for similar devices, or by comparing via laboratory testing to a similar device (many of which we have in stock in our lab).
At Flometrics we can do experiments and calculations in parallel to achieve the major objectives of an engineering project.
The ability to quickly go from concept to testing to final solution is a key to what makes Flometrics effective.

By using our modeling capability to produce accurate models of your system, we can combine it with velocity, pressure, flow and temperature measurements to understand how to improve your products.
The Flometrics Pressure Pulse Generator & Attenuation Testing Device (PPG-601A) is an all-in-one system for testing frequency response and attenuation of transducers, catheters and other pressure-sensing devices.
The system was developed using Flometrics' extensive knowledge of fluid mechanics and years of experience in the engineering services field.
This system is in use by several of the world's top medical device manufacturers.
