Custom Engineering Plastics (CEP) is a leader in the southwestern United States in plastic injection molding of short to medium run production parts. CEP also specializes in and produces hybrid aluminum molds used for injection molding. By assisting and advising our customers during the early stages of new product development our turn-around time is faster and more efficient.

We produce molds in-house and they last significantly longer than industry averages due to CEP's unique design capabilities and the care exercised in the maintenance of the molds. The highest level of quality control and assurance is the focus of CEP throughout our mold making and part production. CEP produces parts for most major industries, including electronics, computer, medical device, home health care, automotive, sports, entertainment, video, defense, transportation and marine.

Here at CEP we have our own Quality-Control Process that has kept us trouble-free for years. Our Quality-Control Process meets our customer's requirements.
Services
CEP has been San Diego's leader in the production of high quality aluminum production tooling for over 30 years.
CEP's mold making and injection molding teams are experts in getting your product from "prints to parts" in record time, using state of the art CAD-CAM software to produce your tooling.
We excel at building high quality production tooling by partnering with our customers at the earliest possible stage in the development process.
By being involved early, costly redesign work can be avoided and tool build lead time can be minimized.
Custom Engineering Plastics (CEP) provides our customers with assistance at each stage of their project, from initial concept through tool design/development, mold tryout and final sign-off.
In-house design capabilities backed by an experienced engineering department, assure a finished product which has been designed for manufacturability.
Customer satisfaction is our goal.
From the simple to the complex, CEP routinely delivers precision tools and injection molded components fast and on time.
CEP combines mold design, mold making and injection molding under one roof to provide rapid solutions.
Are you having injection molds made for your company overseas and wishing for shorter delivery times and faster turn-around?
CEP can run your foreign made molds here in the U.S.A. and supply you with high quality parts with American made resins and fast turn-around without the cost of air freight or slow shipping times!
Myths have always been around: the world is flat and the sun revolves around the earth- to name a few.
The world of manufacturing is no different with its own false beliefs.
Today we have the myth that aluminum tooling is "junk tooling or for prototypes only".
This is a stereotype that has grown from earlier grades of aluminum-alloys that were gummy, difficult to cut and improperly used in a manufacturing environment.
The development of aircraft grade 7075 aluminum brought forth a durable and quality product.
Moldmakers and molders looking to find an alternative to traditional tool steels should seriously consider using aluminum.
Aluminum tooling offers a myriad of benefits: it is easier to cut and it cools at a much more rapid rate than tool steels, which reduces cycle times-resulting in reduced costs at the OEM level.
This article will present the challenges and benefits of using aluminum tooling from four perspectives: moldmaker, molder, material supplier and hot runner manifold supplier.
According to Chris Jones, president of Rapid Die & Engineering (Grand Rapids, MI)-a plastic injection mold manufacturer specializing in a wide variety of automotive components-aluminum tooling is gaining in prominence.
