While attending Agricultural College in Scotland, Ian Craik discovered a talent for engineering which lead to an apprenticeship in Ramsgate. Ian went on to start Ingham Engineering. As a marine engineer on board private yachts Ian traveled the world. He took a break to complete an instrumentation course which lead to various jobs in power plants and the oil industry.

Ian eventually settled in the Norfolk village of Ingham which gave its name to his new company. From 1981 Ingham Engineering specialized in welding equipment repair in the counties of Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Ian returned to marine engineering in 1988, working as engineer on a variety of vessels, both motor and sail. While visiting Fort Lauderdale in 1990, Ian was hired to manage the refit of a large sailing yacht.

He resurrected the name of his original company and Ingham Engineering was reborn as a service provider to the yacht industry with special emphasis on European marine products and parts. Ian retired in 2015, leaving Ingham Engineering in the capable hands of Scott Blume.
